Uyghur Genocide on Display

  • International Support for Uyghurs Montreal, QC, Canada (map)

On November 12, the International Support for Uyghurs (ISU), in collaboration with USMS, hosted an impactful event at McGill University titled "Breaking the Silence: Uyghur Genocide on Display." This powerful gathering brought together students, advocates, and community members to raise awareness about the Uyghur genocide in East Turkistan and to celebrate East Turkistan National Day, honouring the Uyghur people’s resilience and pursuit of justice.

We were honoured to have MP Sameer Zuberi join us, adding a vital perspective to the discussion. MP Zuberi addressed key questions surrounding Canada’s role in Uyghur rights advocacy and shared insights on the legislative actions needed to protect persecuted communities. His participation highlighted the importance of political action and reinforced the urgency of international support.

The event included powerful firsthand accounts from Uyghur witnesses, highlighting family separation, religious repression, and cultural erasure under Chinese policies. Their stories gave attendees insight into the Uyghur community’s hardships and resilience.

With a curated collection of photographs and videos depicting the rich history and resilience of the Uyghur people, the event left a lasting impression on participants. It fostered solidarity, inspiring attendees to support Uyghur rights actively and to become advocates for justice and human rights.
To further engage the audience, we held a Uyghur trivia contest with prizes. This encouraged participants to learn more about Uyghur history and culture.
